Memories of 2020

Posted in News

Happy New Year!!

What a year 2020 was, one we will all remember. It may have been challenging, but it allowed us to explore new avenues, enjoy hobbies both new and old, appreciate each other and truly value what we have.

Despite the uncertainty and the many changes made throughout our local towns, cities and in fact the world, we are so very proud of all our clients and how they have coped and managed. They have shown great strength and willingness to continue with their rehabilitation and engage with the support shown from Headway Swindon.

The ability to adapt to new routines and processes can be hard enough for everyone, but for a person effected by a brain injury this is particularly difficult and has been a challenge for many. Staff have been supporting our 90 clients with support and advice, trouble shooting and most of all emotional health.

This past year has seen us develop our remote services which have been expanded and adapted to allow and enable as many clients as possible. We have been able to provide tablet computers to clients, Wi-Fi to support people in their homes that are isolated and enable them to join in sessions with us at Headway and keep in touch. We have provided wellbeing calls, shopping and medication collections, provided clients with bespoke work and art packs to complete at home and video cognitive sessions to continue the work Headway Swindon does. We have been able to keep in touch with our partnerships and supporters, making our relationships stronger.

We cannot thank our amazing clients and fabulous supporters enough. Between donations of supplies for the centre, goodies for the clients we also raised a fantastic £44,954!!

Our hope for 2021 is to continue to support our clients through what continues to be a difficult and challenging time. Promote and expand our remote service, alongside the bespoke cognitive sessions we are now running in the centre. We have worked very hard to make our centre safer than ever and look forward to slowly being able to offer more centre based activities later this year.

From everyone at Headway, we wish you the best for 2021.
