It could be a few hours a week as a learning companion, giving administrative help or helping with the quarterly newsletter design and distribution. Being a volunteer at Headway Swindon means you are part of a friendly and supportive team.
You can have more than one role too, it depends on you and the amount of time you have to spare. Whether you are looking for a career change, to learn a new skill or perfect an existing skill, the possibilities are endless.
Being a learning companion allows you to share your precious time helping those with a brain injury towards achieving their individual goals. Through activities such as art and crafts, pen and paper exercises, projects and discussions, you can help our clients rediscover skills they enjoyed before their injury or to discover new skills to enhance their lives. This is a rewarding, fun and sometimes challenging role, but help is always on hand from the support workers.
Fundraising and/or Administrator:
There are opportunities to help with fundraising also. As a charity we rely heavily on the generosity of the community and businesses. Throughout the year we run a number of fundraising activities; being a part of the team that organise and run these activities is an opportunity to share and learn new skills and let your creative side take the lead.
We offer a unique environment for students to complete their placement hours or work experience. With no two days ever being the same, you will be part of a small yet supportive team. Headway Swindon can provide you with valuable experience to help with your future endeavours.

What happens next?
Should you decide you want to volunteer or complete your student placement with us, please download and complete our application pack. We will then schedule a visit for you to see the centre first hand and what we offer our clients. We will discuss your likes, dislikes, your skills and how your potential may be realised. This will enable us to make your volunteering experience as enjoyable as possible. We will also discuss our expectations and make sure your volunteer role is suitable for you. If you have any specialist skills we can discuss how they can be implemented, through cooking activities, singing groups, debating and a wealth of other activities.
Dependant on the role applied for, we would need to ask for two references and complete a DBS check. We would ask you to sign a volunteer agreement, which sets out what you can expect from us and the standards we expect from our volunteers. Information, training and the necessary support to make you comfortable in your volunteer role will be provided.
At Headway Swindon we appreciate every second of time volunteers give to us and the skills they bring are enormously valuable. Without their help and support we would not be able to help as many service users and their families. If you would like to be a part of our thriving team of volunteers, you can either download our application pack, contact us on 01793 674820 or email firstname.lastname@example.org We look forward to hearing from you, thank you.
