What we can do for you?
Before you become a learning companion we would meet with you to discuss your likes, dislikes, your skills and how your potential may be realised. This will enable us to make your volunteering experience as enjoyable as possible. We will also discuss our expectations and make sure your volunteer role is suitable for you. If you have any specialist skills we can discuss how they can be implemented, through cooking activities, singing groups, debating and a wealth of other activities. We would need to ask for two references and complete a DBS check as some of the service users may be vulnerable and we need to protect their interests. We would ask you to sign a volunteer agreement, this sets out what you can expect from us and the standards we expect from our volunteers. We will give you the information, training and the necessary support to make you comfortable in your volunteer role.
At Headway Swindon we appreciate every second of time volunteers give to us and the skills they bring are enormously valuable. With out their help and support we would not be able to help as many service users and their families.
